GP- DR CLAIRE GODWIN

Dr. Claire Godwin graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Cape Town. She then returned to Johannesburg to complete her internship at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital.

The next challenge was Leratong Hospital where she stayed on after community service in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. It was during this time that she developed her passion for women's health and completed her post graduate diploma in obstetrics.

Following this she moved into general practice to pursue her dream of providing quality health care to her patients as well as to bridge the gap between general practice and gynaecology. It was with this is mind she co-founded Drs. Castelyn & Godwin.

DR CLAIRE CASTELYN - GENERAL PRACTITIONER (SPECIAL INTEREST IN PAEDIATRICS)

Dr Castelyn graduated as a doctor from the University of Cape Town in 2012 with a distinction in MBChB. She went on to complete an internship at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital and community service at Leratong Hospital, where  she was in the Paediatrics Department.

Since then, she has further qualified with a post graduate diploma in Child Health (DCH) from the College of Paediatrics of South Africa in 2016. She then headed off to work on-board cruise ships – Harmony of the Seas (the largest cruise liner in the world) & Celebrity Solstice – as the ships’ doctor.

Her passion for South Africa, helping others and love of medicine now has her back in the community where she has opened her own practice - Drs. Castelyn & Godwin. She also works at emergency rooms and assists with surgeries at hospitals around Johannesburg.

DR MEGAN SNYMAN

Dr Megan Snyman graduated from Stellenbosch University with a Bsc in Sports Science, and then went on to complete her MBBch at the University of Witwatersrand in 2010.

She has been practicing as a GP for over 5 years now, with a special interrest in sports and nutrition. However she loves the scope of general practice which focuses not only on health, but also on the dynamics and wellbeing of whole families.

HOMEOPATH & PSYCHOMETRIST- MARILENA DEROUKAKIS

I am a homeopath and a psychometrist. I finished my first degree in Classical Homoeopathy from London's Westminster University in 1999 and then did my Master's Degree at Exeter University. On returning to South Africa, I crossed over to the other side and completed a Degree in Drugs (called a Master of Science in Medicine: Pharmacotherapy). After a few more years of practicing homeopathy, I completed another Master of Science Degree in Medicine-this time in Paediatric Neurodevelopment.

My homeopathic prescribing is minimalist, as is the classical homeopathic way. Only one remedy is selected, which acts as a catalyst for unravelling the symptoms and bringing a person to their best state of health possible. I take into account a person’s individual response to a disease, their genetics, what their stresses are and how they respond to them.

​

My training in psychology happened quite gradually. I had one year under my belt when I started studying homeopathy and continued my studies through UNISA while I was in the UK. I completed my internship in 2005 and have been registered as a psychometrist ever since. 

​

Dr Nadine Behari graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Science (BDS) degree from University of Witwatersrand Dental School in 2003. She completed a year of community service in the Eastern Cape before embarking upon work in the private dental sector. She worked in association with a prosthodontist for 12 years before joining the family at Premier Health Centre. Dr Nadine Behari is registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA), the South African Dental Association (SADA) and the Paedodontic Society of South Africa

DR ESSACK- DERMATOLOGIST

Dr Essack was born in Johannesburg and lived most of his life in Durban.

He completed his undergraduate medical degree (M.B.Ch.B.) at the University of Natal Medical School (now known as the Nelson R. Mandela School of Medicine - University of Kwa-Zulu Natal) in Durban in 1998.

He completed his internship at King Edward VIII Hospital in Durban in 1999.

In 2000, he spent a year doing Community Service at R.K. Khan Hospital in Durban. During this time, he obtained experience in trauma and emergencies, general family medicine and paediatrics.

The following year, he continued at King Edward VIII Hospital, spending time in the paediatric speciality units for gastroenterology, haematology, endocrinology, neonatology and ICU.

He then obtained experience in internal medicine at Prince Mshiyeni Memorial Hospital in Durban.

In 2003, he joined the Department of Dermatology as a Medical Officer at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital in Durban.

The following year, he began post graduate studies at the Department of Dermatology at the Nelson R. Mandela School of Medicine.

In 2006, he obtained a Fellowship of the College of Dermatologists of South Africa (F.C.Derm (S.A.)). After spending more than a year as an acting consultant, he continued for a further year as a consultant with responsibilities including teaching undergraduate and postgraduate dermatology.

He moved to Johannesburg in 2009 for family reasons, where he started private practice. He has interest in skin cancers and their treatments, dermatological surgery, HIV dermatology and general medical dermatology.

Dr Essack is called upon regularly to lecture at dermatology workshops and symposia and continues to be involved in the teaching of dermatology to other practitioners. In addition, he writes regularly for print publications including hospital and heath magazines and has been featured on numerous broadcasts including radio and television, and uses these platforms to educate the public. 

He is also a member of the Dermatological Society of South Africa, the South African Society for Dermatologic Surgery and is a supporter of the Skin Cancer Foundation of South Africa.

OPHTHALMOLOGIST - DR JENNY LAITHWAITE

Dr Laithwaite is an ophthalmologist who has been in practice for over 12 years.  She performs eye surgery including cataract surgery and squint procedures.  She treats other conditions of the eye from infections and childhood visual problems to macular degeneration and uveitis.

PSYCHIATRIST- DR CARINA MARSAY

Dr Carina Marsay, a specialist psychiatrist, obtained her FC Psych (SA) in 2009 her MMed (Psych) in 2010 and her PhD in 2018. She is an honorary appointee in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of the Witwatersrand. Dr Marsay has an interest in perinatal psychiatry and is a member of the International Marcé Society, an organisation dedicated to perinatal mental health.

Shai Friedland (MA Clin. Psych. Cum Laude. UNISA)

Shai Friedland is a clinical psychologist working from a cognitive behavioural perspective. He graduated (cum laude) from the University of South Africa (UNISA) and completed both his internship and community service at Sterkfontein Hospital. She then worked in corporate setting in the Food service industry for a few years after which she started her Private Practise to pursue her dream of educating her clients and make healthy eating easy, affordable and enjoyable.
